You may not notice early signs of pre-eclampsia, such as high blood pressure and protein in urine. Routine pregnancy checks are not only for days when you feel unwell. Your care team should interpret the results.

## Ask about the plan as well as the result

At the appointment, ask: “Does this result need another check?” and “When is the next step?” If a follow-up is arranged, write its date and the service together. Clarify whom to contact instead of leaving yourself a vague note such as “check later”.

## A home record is not a decision by itself

If home monitoring is part of your care, ask your own team about the device, method and when to seek help. Another person’s thresholds or an online table do not replace your plan. Do not use an app colour alone as reassurance; describe symptoms separately.

## Symptoms should not wait for your appointment

Severe headache, changes in vision, pain below the ribs, sudden swelling of the face or hands, or feeling very unwell may need urgent assessment. Contact maternity care immediately. Take these symptoms seriously in the weeks after birth too.

## A short preparation note

Bring the names of products you use, instructions from the last visit and two questions. It is reasonable to ask for a missing result again or request an explanation of an unfamiliar term. This guide does not diagnose a condition or recommend starting a medicine or supplement.
