Constipation can occur during pregnancy, and no single food or app score resolves it for everyone. Alongside manageable changes to your routine, tell your healthcare team about persistent symptoms and the products you take.

## Avoid changing everything at once

NHS advice includes fibre from whole grains, fruit, vegetables and pulses, adequate fluids and suitable activity. Increase fibre gradually. If you have dietary restrictions or an individual nutrition plan, work with the team responsible for it.

## Allow time for the toilet

Avoid repeatedly postponing the urge to go, and allow unhurried time. Instead of a long checklist, leave one line answering “What was different today?” Do not treat a particular date as a deadline for improvement.

## Do not stop prescribed products yourself

Some products, including iron, can affect symptoms. Bring their names and how you take them to the appointment. Do not stop or change prescribed treatment yourself. Ask a clinician or pharmacist about pregnancy suitability before using laxatives, herbal mixtures or supplements.

## When should you seek advice?

Seek medical assessment for constipation that persists or repeatedly returns, blood in your stool, abdominal pain or a sudden change in bowel habits. Record the onset and accompanying symptoms if you can. Do not assume a severe or sudden problem is simply constipation.
